Tax Authorities

Menu Group: File Maintenance:Tax Tables

The tax authority tables are used to maintain the withholding tables for Federal Income tax, State Income Tax, and the Earned Income Credit allowance. The software is delivered with the tax information for Federal, all 50 states, and for the EIC. The only time you would change any of the values in these tables would be when they have been changed by the appropriate level of government.

Some states maintain a county tax as well. These county taxes are usually functions based on the federal or state tax. Therefore they are not handled via the tables, but by a formula on an EBD. For an example see the County tax treatments document.

You should not change anything on the first screen above.

This screen has 20 slots for misc tax information pertaining to the authority chosen. In this case the first parameter slot is the Federal Allowance. Browse through the file to see some of the other uses for these parameters. The only field that you will ever change is the value. The system looks at these values when doing its tax calculations so moving them around is not an option. See the Tax Method topic for more information about Parameter 10.

The next folder is used to record the wage brackets and their corresponding Base and Rate.
