Before EDI data can be generated or processed, certain information such as segment and
segment line details, segment descriptions, transaction set names, EDI dictionary
information, and EDI keywords and function keywords, must be loaded into the system
beforehand. While the tables are supplied with the EDI software, they are not
automatically loaded into the system.
The EDI Data File Loader function allows you to load in this information without having to
use the PROGRESS dictionary. You will be prompted for the names of input files to use to
load the appropriate data, as well as whether or not you want details to be printed. If
you do not want to load in a particular data file, leave its input file name blank. Make
sure you specify the correct path by concatenating it to the beginning of the line. The
file name must remain the same. Put the files in the home directory if you do not want
to key in the full path.
The system will check to see if an input file exists, before attempting to load in data.
When loading data, the system will overwrite any records that already exist. The report
printed out for this function will indicate whether a record is newly created, or has been
updated.
This function should be run when a new EDI system is set up, or when new EDI transaction
sets and/or versions become available. New or updated EDI standards can be downloaded from
our Web site in the updates section. When loading new
standards you need only load the first four file names in the selection list below.
The function should be password protected to ensure that the "master" files
created by this function are not overwritten.
